Frequently Asked Roofing Questions

Peeling back roof shingle for roof inspection

How can I tell if I need a new roof, or just repairs?

The best way to determine if your roof can be repaired, or if you need to get a new roof is to have a professional roof inspection.  Your roofer can let you know if that leak can be repaired simply with shingles, or if there is more extensive corrosion, rotting roof boards, or other issues that might indicate a roof replacement is necessary.  Your best bet is to schedule a roof inspection as quickly as possible, as small leaks can turn into big problems if left untreated.

How much does a new roof cost?

It’s hard to give a single number, as every roofing project and situation is different. The size and style of your roof, old roof removal, shape, and features such as skylights, chimneys, and vents must be taken into consideration, and all affect the final price.

It’s common for a roof replacement to be somewhere in the $8,000-$15,000 range.  However, each roofing project is different, and your roof may cost less or more.  The best way to get an accurate estimate is to give our team a call or fill out the contact form on this page to get a free quote, without any obligation.

Can I repair or replace my roof myself?

Even if you’re experienced in DIY repairs, when it comes to your roof you should leave it to the pros.  Did you know that falling is the second leading cause of at home death in the United States? Roofing is one of the most dangerous DIY projects you can take on.  Not to mention that mistakes can lead to further damage and be expensive to fix.  When it comes to your roof and protecting your home, we suggest modifying that popular home improvement store’s slogan to “Let the pros do this.”

How long does it take to reroof a house?

A roof replacement on many homes can be completed in as little as a few days, ranging up to a few weeks for larger or more complicated projects.  The speed of the project mostly depends on the size of your home, what types of materials are being used, and how cooperative the weather is being.

Will replacing my roof increase my property value?

The short answer here is yes. Not only will a new roof increase your home’s curb appeal, but also most buyers do not want to purchase a home in need of major repairs.  A brand new roof that will last for years, or even decades, gives home buyers peace of mind, and can be a selling point for your property that your real estate agent will want to highlight.  Plus, you will often make back most, if not all, of the cost of re-roofing your home when you sell.  Seems like a win-win to us.

Do you offer eco-friendly roofing materials?

Yes, we have a variety of eco-friendly materials available that you can select for your roofing project, such as composite shake roof shingles or recycled shingles.  We love to recycle any waste roofing materials when possible.  Also, remember that your new roof will make your home more energy-efficient, reducing your household’s energy expenditure.

Will there be damage when you remove my old roof?

Removing a roof from any building will involve vibrations that can cause loose items to fall or cracks in plaster and walls.  Roofing debris, such as dirt, shingles, gravel, and even tar can and will fall into open spaces beneath your roof like attics or garages.  You should let us know about any openings in your ceilings, like vents and canned lighting, so we can try to minimize debris falling into these areas.  We are not responsible for incidental property damage incurred in the process of performing the roofing job, but we will do our best to minimize the damage and leave the job site as clean as possible.

What about utility wires and cables in the roof?

Television, phone, and electrical cables are often present in your existing roofing. While we’re removing your old roof, we’ll check and let you know if these wires and cables are corroded, damaged, or otherwise in need of repairs by an appropriate professional after the completion of your roofing job.

Will my home be safe from the weather during the re-roofing process?

We will protect your home from wet and rainy weather every day before we leave the job site.  This will either be with water-tight roofing, or with tarpaulins as needed.  Despite our efforts, no method is 100% effective, and we are not responsible for damage from unexpected rain or storms.

When is the best time to replace my roof?

While we work year round, the weather does impact how quickly and safely we can do our job.  Summer months will be drier, but also busier, so there may be more of a wait to get your roof replacement project completed.  Rainy months will have fewer roof replacements, but more customers requesting roof repairs.  Either way, we should be able to complete your roofing project in a timely manner.  Just contact us at the first sign of trouble with your roof, and we can get your repairs or replacement scheduled at the time that works best for you.
